I don't get it.
If the NPE refers to a specific event in 2011 it's too unclear for me.
Even if it was clear, the relation to Java is very thin, as the concept of a NPE is the same in many languages.
It would be kind if someone could explain it though.

To answer the above questions why Java:
Because it runs everywhere without recompiling ;-)
Imagine a world where you have to recompile the "Source of Life" - hehe
