I keep dead code around in case I need to use it. However, with version control, it's not that big of a deal to remove it.

reminds me of grandpa... he used to keep rusty screws and bent nails in a tin can in the basement. every now and then, when something needed repair he went there to search it for a fitting piece. He used to spent 2 hours on the search, sometimes trying to straighten a badly bent nail with the hammer ... and often enough I ended up with an "urgent" phone call: "could You please take grandpa to the hardware store when You're finished working?"...
