Sorry, I don't get it either :O
Posted by: D | August 22, 2011 at 11:11 PM
That's "leet" for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
Which doesn't really make sense, because the only numbers on eye charts are the row numbers.
Posted by: Brent Logan | August 22, 2011 at 11:47 PM
Maybe it is about the single quotation marks indicating each letter as a string?
Posted by: Jan | August 23, 2011 at 12:40 AM
LZEAS in Leet = 12345
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leetspeak
Need glasses to read the line numbers in
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Snellen_chart.svg
Posted by: Extev | August 23, 2011 at 01:53 AM
When saying the line numbers in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Snellen_chart.svg in Leet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leetspeak you get LZEAS.
Posted by: Extev | August 23, 2011 at 02:10 AM
Seems like a weird Assembler-Opcode...
Posted by: brabax | August 23, 2011 at 07:12 AM
I think I got it! L Z E A S = 1,2,3,4,5!
Posted by: Kapil Dube | August 23, 2011 at 07:43 AM
Seems to be 1337 speak related: 1 2 3 4 5
Too "bad" that real geeks don't do that and thus don't understand.
Posted by: Gerfried Fuchs | August 23, 2011 at 09:15 AM
leet speak for "1 2 3 4 5" check wikipedia ;-)
Posted by: Chris | August 23, 2011 at 10:11 AM
was will uns der Autor damit sagen?
Leet ist es nicht...

M4yb3 thi5 wi11 h3lp y0u...
Posted by: Kris | August 23, 2011 at 10:37 AM
Took us a while too! :)
I think its Leet,
i Z E A S
1 2 3 4 5
I think the capital "L" makes it difficult. :)

th4t'5 L33T5P34K ;)

SPOILER! !
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED !
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 !
Posted by: Brzhk | August 23, 2011 at 11:19 AM
Its leetspeak. LZEAS is 12345.
When you test your eyes, you have to read a few signs so your eyes can be checked. A geek will only read leetspeak :-D
Posted by: Trunks2117 | August 23, 2011 at 11:47 AM
It says leet if you hover over the image. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leet for a hint :)
L = 1
Z = 2
E = 3
A = 4
S = 5
Posted by: Nekaab | August 23, 2011 at 01:25 PM
Maybe he spelled the quotes and the commas?
Posted by: Obi | August 23, 2011 at 01:26 PM
in 133t sp34k its 1 2 3 4 5
Posted by: me | August 23, 2011 at 02:20 PM
I guess it is ascii ;-)
Posted by: T | August 23, 2011 at 02:57 PM
I guess the joke is he actually says "believe me, it's LCD eyes". Since LCD monitors apparently are bad for the eyes.
Spelled out, 'L' 'Z' 'E' 'A' 'S' sounds like LCD eyes.
Posted by: Mich | August 23, 2011 at 03:39 PM
With the hint 'leet' I figured out the eye doctor showed him: '1', '2', '3', '4', '5'
Posted by: Patrick Huizinga | August 23, 2011 at 06:48 PM
Hint : leet (aka alt-text of the pic)
Posted by: 1337 | August 23, 2011 at 06:51 PM
Probably mistook the logmar chart for a game of find the next sequence ?
Posted by: JFL | August 23, 2011 at 06:59 PM
L33t sp34k? :-)
Posted by: Hint? | August 23, 2011 at 09:35 PM
I assume:
During the eyesight test they should read "12345"
As they are geeks they read:
1 => l
2 => z
3 => E
4 => A
5 => S
And as the doctor most probably does not understand leet-speak...
Posted by: uwe | August 23, 2011 at 10:15 PM
I thought the joke was supposed to be that he read an in-order traversal of the tree rather than a level-order traversal. So instead of getting E Z A L S, as the eye doctor expected, he got L Z E A S.
Although to be more accurate this comic should have read T F E O P Z, since the Snellen chart reads E F P T O Z.
